How Is Cinco De Mayo Celebrated?

    Cinco de Mayo is the anniversary for the Battle of Puebla. The Mexican army fought and defeated the mighty French army who wanted to colonize Mexico. The battle took place after the prolonged Mexican-American over in the late 1840s.  It is celebrated on May 5th annually. The year 2006 marks the 144th anniversary of Cinco de Mayo. The most common mistake that people make is to equate it with Meican independence.

    Cinco de Mayo is celebrated with great pomp and splendor in the Untied States. Mexican immigrants ensure that there is celebration in the air. Traditional Mexican song and dances such as the folklorico, mariachi etc happens all over the place. There are many Mexican food and beverage festivals that happen during this time. There are colorful parades in many cities throughout the United States. Cinco de Mayo began as something that only the Hispanics indulged in but over the years it has broken through these racial barriers.
