Why Are Bodily Functions So Funny?
Hilarious bodily funniness, why?
Answers
Hmmm. Well, I don't think bodily functions are funny, but I have seen reactions of laughter or giggles from (especially) children! I think maybe Nanny's right about the surprise factor, especially with children. With adults, I wonder if those who laugh or giggle about bodily functions are also really a little embarrassed about how they occur sometimes without our intention or control. Maybe it's a way of laughing at ourselves and avoiding embarrassment about something that sometimes comes from us unexpectedly--? Seems humor is our way of dealing with something we don't understand or can't control, overall, sort of a defense mechanism. That's my best guess!

It all depends on your point of view and probably the level of one's maturity. I for one, find that type of humor to be in very poor taste. Maybe it appeals to those who tend to lack sophistication. That sort of "humor" is crude and demonstrates a lack of control. I would be curious to know why you think it's funny.

I don't usually find bodily functions funny, but I know a lot of people do. It's a very interesting question.
I think one of the key elements of humor is surprise. A good joke will lead you to believe one thing is going to happen and then surprise you with something else altogether. This delights us and makes us laugh.
Young people in general find bodily functions more humorous than older people. Maybe when we are young we are surprised by the noises our bodies make and find it funny. Perhaps when we get older we've heard it all and don't find it funny anymore. Of course there are exceptions, plenty of older people who find bodily functions humorous. Maybe those people are more in touch with their youth or the beginings of the human race.
This is all conjecture on my part.
