I'm Going To Be Moving House Within The Next Few Months But I'm Debating Whether Or Not To Hire A Removals Van. Is It Worth The Money Or Should I Do It Myself?

Answer Question

Removal vans can be expensive and sometimes it can seem like they really are not worth it, especially if you are only moving around the block! However, there are times when a removal van is definitely needed; it is just knowing when you can afford to do things yourself and when you should use a removal van that is the dilemma!
Generally if you do not have a lot of things to move and you can easily fit the items into your car or van, then really you do not need a removals van. However, if you have a lot of heavy items to move and you are moving quite far from where you are now, a removals van is definitely recommended! So, weigh up your options. Could you fit everything in or do you know somebody who may be able to help you move everything? Another important thing to consider is safety. Removal companies are specially trained to lift heavy items and so they have less chance of injuring themselves. You on the other hand could cause yourself an injury if you are not careful. So, it is all down to personal preference and your removal needs. If you can manage things on your own then it is worth doing. If not – hire the professionals!

Consider how much time you'll need to move everything, especially the really heavy and cumbersome items. Consider the overlap time between leaving your old apartment and starting in your new one.

Removal firms are good for short notice, when one apartment lease ends and thge next starts over, say, a week or less. Where the overlap is a month, or even a fortnight, you might be able to do it yourself and with friends.

Get appraisals from several companies for the cost of removals, and then work out your time and petrol costs for doing it yourself. The professionals are often cheaper than you think, and often also insured against breakages.
