    James Gandolfini is an American actor who is most famous for playing the character of Tony Soprano in the gangster television drama 'The Sopranos'.

    James Gandolfini was born on the 18th of September 1961 in Westwood, New Jersey.
    After finishing high school, he attended Rutgers University in New Brunswick. Upon graduation, Gandolfini struggled for several years to find work as an actor. During this time he was a barman in Manhattan.

    He made his Broadway debut at the age of 31 in 1992, when he performed 'A Streetcar Named Desire'.
    The following year, he got his break onto the big screen, when he starred in Tarantino's 'True Romance'.

    During the 1990s, Gandolfini continued to star in several films including 'Get Shorty' and 'Crimson Tide', before being cast as the lead in HBO's drama 'The Sopranos' in 1999. The show has just finished it's sixth season.

    In James Gandolfini's personal life, he was engaged to actress Lora Somoza in 2004, but sadly the couple parted ways in 2005.
