I bought it as a houseplant as the red blooms match my decor . Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be that when you water it these leaves get flooded, turn yellow and drop off. Why not try watering less but more often. Also do you have good drainage in the bottom of the pot that allows for excess water to drain away, so that the roots are not sitting water logged?
