If you have not had a bowel movement for two days then it is likely that you are constipated. Dr Gillian McKeith, the TV health and fitness guru says that bowels should be emptied at least twice a day and that if you haven't passed a stool in a day, then you are constipated. However, there are days when perhaps not even roughage has been taken in or the morning was too rushed and it simply 'did not happen'.
If it doesn't happen on the second day then you need to 'encourage' the bowels to move, through drinking some prune juice, lots of fruit and drinking plenty of water. The stools that we pass are made up of about 75% fluid, so the body needs water to be able to allow the bowels to move.
If you experience constipation, then your diet needs to become more varied, with plenty of fruit and vegetables, as well as wholegrains and pulses.
