Do All Gardens Need Lots Of Weeding?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Weeds are simply tough little plants in the wrong place. A dandelion in the rural hedgerow is beautiful. Slap bang in the centre of your bowling green style lawn it is a nasty weed. You can mightily reduce the presence of weeds by planting your borders thickly so there is just not very much space for the weeds to grow. Remember some of your precious paid for plants will reproduce like weeds so some of what gardeners call weeding also involved picking out the abundant seedlings of plants you love. There is no way out of it. All gardens require some maintenance but the more relaxed and abundant your own planting the more you will be able to tolerate the occasional weed and self-sown perennial. Formal schemes with sparse or single coloured planting are the most damaged by plants out of place so aim to be a les restrained gardener in order to lighten your load.
