Wild animal ownership is highly regulated in all states. You will need permits to even legally purchase a wild animal. And why would you want a wild animal. Wolves are not domesticated in any way. An adult wolf will not be the same as owning a dog and will be aggressive. It would not be able to live in your home as a family pet.
Good answer, which is why I gave ya 4 stars. However ownership of wild animals is not highly regulated in ALL states. Laws vary. In Missouri, such laws exist, but are virtually unenforced unless the person is keeping something like a bear inside of a town and people get excited and report it. I know several people who own racoons (which can be VERY dangerous if provoked), and have one friend (a different guy from the wolf owner I know) who has 2 bobcats. They do watch, closely, people like some friends of mine who live just outside of town. They own 3 lions, several tigers, various bears, wolves, and an assortment of other animals. They also have licenses and full, roofed over chain-link fence, enclosures.
You have to be so careful about wolves, they are naturally suspicious about EVERYTHING THAT MOVES!!!! You don't really want one in the climate that you are in either. I would strongly recommend that you move to a climate that the animal can more healthily take. WHY would you want a dog that is climated for -20, and make him live in a climate of +90? I hardly think that that is fair to the animal. Sorry.
Check local laws. Some states do not recognize a wolf as able to be domesticated (and I do not believe they ever can fully be), and as such, special licenses and enclosures must be provided. Further, you run some serious risks. They ARE natural predators, and instincts are close to the surface. If one attacks someone, then you could be looking at losing every thing you own.
A friend of mine had one until heart-worms killed it recently. Beautiful beast. But when he looked at you with those golden eyes... It gave you the creepy crawlies. You KNEW he was sizing you up as an appetizer. About once a year or so, a male wolf will also challenge you for dominance. Tom literally had to take the wolf on, and beat it good. Then Tom would have to hump it and establish dominance, just like they do in the wild. The wolf would then be cool for a while, but in a yr or so... Ya could never know for sure when he would turn.
I thought it was a gorgeous animal... But would never ever own one. The only way you could be safe, liability-wise, is keeping it caged, and I would not do that to an animal.
Raised properly domestically they do not size people up to eat them. That is the absolute problem with why the WOLF gets blamed for things it does not do.
FLORIDA is an illegal state unless you have a class 1 permit. To have a Class 1, you must have 1600 hours of experience, and a chain link enclosure that meets FLA requirements. Odds are if you are here asking, you aren't even close.
Florida is also trying to ban Wolfdogs.
