When Was Crewe Alexandra Football Club Founded?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Crewe Alexandra Football Club was founded in 1877 and is based in Crewe, Cheshire.

There is some confusion on whether the club was named after a pub called Alexandra, in which the club was formed, or whether the team is named after Princess Alexandra.

Nevertheless, the club is also commonly known as 'the Railwaymen' due to Crewe's historic links with the train industry.

Crewe Alexandra were one of the founding members of the Football League's Division Two in 1892, having previously got to the semi-finals of the FA cup in 1888.

The club plays it's home games at the ground of the Alexandra Stadium on Gresty Road which has a capacity for over 10,000 people.

The club currently resides in the League One division after they lost a relegation battle in the Championship in the 2005/06 season which saw the club finishing in 22nd place.
