The Routemaster bus is one of the types of a double-decker bus which is known as the symbol of London heritage and started operating in 1954. However, the service of this bus has diminished in the past few years as compared to previous times. It had been planned that the bus will be properly maintained at a specified garage, by tearing its body and rebuilding with new material. Unfortunately this plan could not be implemented for a long time as the usage of Routemasters gradually decreased. These buses are long covering over 8 meters of area and can carry more than sixty people, mostly tourists.
These days, Routemasters buses are mostly utilized by private companies such as tourism firms, food stalls and for advertisement purposes. The usage of this bus is most evident in London for the purpose of tourist sight seeing. They are still in excellent condition with great engines. Any one who visits London makes sure to sit on this bus and take a snap at least as it is the most popular symbol of London.
Even in Canada, the Routemaster bus is used for the same purpose that is tourism. It is not targeted for normal passengers but only for people who come to visit Canada.
Apart from these countries, the Routemaster bus is in service in Sri Lanka, India, Alaska, China and Australia.
