What Is The Bridge Between England And Wales?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The New Severn Bridge connects England to Wales. It is near the old ferry crossing that was used by the Romans. The bridge is close to the Severn tunnel which was made in 1886. There are 23 approaches to the bridge from the English end and the 22 from the Welsh end.

High baffles are built on each side of the bridge to deflect the wind. This makes it much safer and open to traffic even when there is high wind. The change from road to bridge is so gradual and well done that most do not even realise it. The new bridge is over 5000 metres; the largest span is 456 metres in the main part of the bridge, which is 947 metres long.

At the eastern end of the bridge, there is a visitor's centre. Models, pictures and video films along with the history and description are on offer to the visitors.
