When Did 'Keeping Up Appearances' First Air?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Keeping Up Appearances aired on BBC1 in October 1990, and ran on for five years, ending in December 1995. In 2003 and 2004, it came twelfth in the list of Britains Best Sitcoms in a BBC poll.

The show focused on the life of Hyacinth Bucket, who lives with her husband Richard. Hyacinth is constantly trying to make a good impression on those who are of higher social class than her. She likes to be posh, and is embarassed by her working-class relatives, mainly her sisters Rose and Daisy, and Daisy's slobbish husband Onslow.

Most episodes usually had the same plot, with Hyacinth trying to impress some upper-class person, whilst at the same time secretly having to deal with another problem, such as keeping watch on her senile father or making sure her relatives aren't nearby to mess things up. Hyacinth has another sister, Violet, who phones her frequently. Whenever Violet rings and Hyacinth has a visitor, Hyacinth usually says 'It's my sister Violet. The one with the Mercedes, sauna and room for a pony'. Hyacinth's surname was 'Bucket', though she insisted that it was pronounced 'Bouquet'.

All series are available on DVD.
