What Does Culling Mean?

The word culling can be defined as the act or action of the person who culls. Also something that has been separated or specifically picked out of a lot of other similar things due to issues regarding its quality etc. is also referred to as culling.

The word culling is mostly used when talking about animals both wild and domesticated. There are various words that are not exactly synonyms but can help us understand the meaning of culling better they are cull, get rid of, choose, cull out, remove, pick out, select etc.

The most recent example of culling amongst domestic animals was the one prompted by the outbreak of the deadly Bird Flu virus. A large number of domesticated poultry was culled and quickly disposed of to avoid the spread of the disease. The farms that experienced the culling were those located in close proximity to sites where Bird Flu cases had been reported.
