My Eleven Year Old Cat Has Recently Started Urinating All Over The House For No Apparent Reason Why?please Help

    Hi,

My 11 year cat old did same thing.  It turned out her diabetes was the reason she couldn't always hold it in.  I made sure she was not often up in my loft bed where she would have these accidents.  I bought a very large size litter box from the Container store (plastic clear storage box) with 2' hi sides and it was 2' long, etc).  She loved that and it seemed to help.

Have your kitty checked for urinary infection (have them do a culture NOT just a urine test) and for diabetes and kidney disease.  They can tell from blood sugar and creatinine if either of these are present.  These can cause urinating out of the box.

Also my friends swear by a litter that has catnip in it and say their cats no longer have these "accidents" outside the litter box.  I know one is made by a company called precious cats -- go onto their site: Preciouscats.com-- they have a great free offer.  On the home page, go up to the yellow bar on top, click on rebates and then click on "free litter fax form."  I believe you can get a 20lb. Bag for FREE.  My friends swear by this.

Also make sure you have "Nature's Miracle" on hand to take out the smell. Good luck.  I know this is such a pain.

Your cat should be investigated by the vet because there is possibility that she is having urinary tract infection. This condition can cause passing of urine here and their even in properly trained cats. Diabetes in cats can also cause this condition. Another possibility is that your cat has lost control over bladder as she is aged. So, take your cat to vet for differential diagnosis and accurate treatment.
