What Is The Difference Between Retardation And Deceleration?

Answer Question

3 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

I always thought they were pretty much the same.  I would define "retardation" as a deceleration of progress.  retarded growth refers to slowing down (deceleration) of the growth process.  mental retardation means a slowing down of mental progress.  maybe I'm wrong, that's just how i always thought of it.

Retardation is to purposely slow down as in a jake brake or dynatard in big trucks and deceleration is the act of slowing down.

I think retardation is negative acceleration whereas deceleration is just a slowing of growth.
