Beware - the answer given by Tausif is, in fact, nonsense. Yes, a baby CAN catch chicken pox from someone with shingles, but they would really have to actually touch the shingles blister(s). If they are covered, then the chances of infection are very, very, very low.

'... Surely he will catch chicken pox..'? Stop trying to scare people, and don't post if you don't know what you're talking about.

You're absolutely right, and I'll also add that chickenpox is best caught within the first six years of a child's life; its onset is less severe and the immunity lasts for around fifty years. While doctors will not generally recommend that you make someone sick, I know and have worked with doctors who encourage mothers to expose their children to chickenpox early on so that things are easier for them.

Yes a 9 month old child can catch chickenpox easily. It is because babies have less power to resist against bacteria and other germs. That is why they are vaccinated against many diseases. So if your grandson is not vaccinated for chicken pox then surely he will catch chicken pox. So extreme care is necessary.
