What Are Monet's Most Notable Pieces Of Art?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Monet's work can be divided into certain series. Rather than individual pieces, it is more helpful to look at the most notable of these series. The most famous of these is certainly the Water Lilies, which were painted in his own garden in Giverny, France. Monet was particularly interested in painting nature in a controlled environment and so his garden, with its highly considered lines and systems of planting, was one of his main influences.

London was also an important subject for Monet, who travelled to the city in 1870 in order to avoid the Franco-Prussian war. He was heavily influenced by English artists, particularly Turner and Constable, the effect of which can be seen in many of his works from this time, particularly his Houses of Parliament, with its Turner-esque mist.

Monet continued to paint around his home-town of Giverny late into his life. Here he also painted his series of 'morning riverscapes', depicting the same stretch of river in the town on several different mornings. The composition of many of these paintings is almost identical, but uses of different colours differentiate them.
