How Serious Are Hairballs?
My long-haired was vomiting after eating. The vet thinks he suffers from hair balls and gave me a laxative/lubricant to help with elimination. Seems to be working. How serious are they?

Hairballs are generally not serious. Times in which they are is if the cat or animal containing a hairball cannot digest or vomit up the hairball and it begins to build is when your animal will stop eating or have irregular eating habits and possibly behavioral changes. Other than that hairballs are not serious.

Long-haired cats probably suffer the effects of hair balls more than other cats (although my short hair cats sure do get them enough!) You can buy hair ball remedys in the form of food and also treats from the store. Another way you can help your cat to get them less often is to brush your cat. That helps to get the loose hairs out so he won't be swallowing as much of it every day.
