How Does Laser Eye Treatment Work?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The two most common kinds of laser eye treatment are LASIK and PRK.
LASIK stands for Laser In situ Keratomileusis. It is a treatment in which a flap is made in the cornea which is similar to a trap door. The flap is created with the help of a microkeratone which is a knife. The procedure basically entails folding back the flap of the cornea, removing a thin layer of tissue and then putting the flap back in place. In this procedure it is very important to have an extremely skilled surgeon since the success is largely dependant on the doctor.

The PRK procedure stands for Photorefractive Keractomy. It entails reshaping the cornea with the help of an ultraviolet laser which is controlled by a computer. The precision of the beam is so good that it can make cuts in a single strand of human hair without breaking it. The laser removes tiny quantities of tissue from the cornea.
