Which Artists Fall Into The Renaissance Era?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The Renaissance, or 'Rebirth', refers to a period of unprecedented artistic and scientific progress beginning around the 14th Century in Italy. Florence was the epicentre for this progression, particularly as a result of the patronage of the Medicis, the most powerful family in Florence at the time.

Many of the most treasured European artists flourished around the time of the Renaissance. In particular these include Botticelli, Bosch, el Greco, van Eyck, Polack and, of course, da Vinci.

It has since been argued that there were, in fact multiple Renaissances. An English Renaissance is often referred to, listing amongst its key figures Shakespeare, Marlow and Milton. Originally the Renaissance period was thought of as a direct reaction to the suppression of progress during the Middle Ages, but this has since been revised with the entire period now being referred to as Early Modern.
