What Is The Highest Mountain In England?

Answer Question

3 Answers - Sort by: Date | Rating

Scafell Pike, in Cumbria (the Lake District).  Its peak measures 978 metres above sea level (3210 feet).

It's actually a fairly easy mountain to ascend or descend, and naturally a favourite of British day hikers.

Details of one of the nicer routes to go up.

Keep in mind it's a full day and tiring walk.  If you do go up in the mountains, you should always be prepared for sudden bad weather.  Bring suitable clothing, footwear, a good map, a compass, extra food and lots of water.  British mountains may be relatively tame by world standards, but they can still throw nasty weather at you with no notice.

The Highest mountain peak in Wales is Snowdon, at 1085 metres.  The tallest Irish mountain barely gets over 1000 feet.  Many Scottish mountains are much taller, though, reaching above 4000 feet high.
