Advertising can be used in a number of ways through a never ends amount of facets. You can advertise products, services, to get a message across, to influence, to provide information, etc. The need for advertising and who the message is aimed at can also influence a number of things. Besides corporations looking to sell something, there's even advertising in politics. For instance, I'm sure at least once a year you can drive through your neighborhood and see a multitude of yard signs and political signs.
