Cancer is a collection of more than 100 unlike infections. They change the body's fundamental component, the cell. Cancer arises when cells turn into abnormal and split without control or order. Like all other organs of the body, the colon and rectum are made up of lots of categories of cells. On average, cells split to create more cells simply when the body wants them. This orderly procedure helps remain us healthy.

If cells remain dividing when fresh cells are not needed, a group of tissue appears. This mass of additional tissue, called an expansion or tumor, can be gentle or evil.
Gentle tumors are not cancer. They can generally be detached and, in the majority of cases, they do not come back. Most significant, cells from gentle tumors do not extend to other parts of the body. Gentle tumors are infrequently a risk to life.

Evil tumors are cancer. Cancer cells can attack and injure tissues and organs next to the tumor. Also, cancer cells can split away from an evil tumor and go into the bloodstream or lymphatic system. This is how cancer spreads from the main tumor to form latest tumors in additional parts of the body. The spread of cancer is identified as metastasis.
