What Is A Certified Payroll?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Certified Payrolls are mandatory records that are submitted on a monthly basis to a particular contracting agency. There are generally statutes in the labour laws of every state that require these to be prepared. They contain information such as the number of workers and their details, a weekly record of wages and benefits paid, state and federal deduction made, the names of the contractor and sub contractor, an attached statement of compliance and a declaration that the information provided is accurate and true. The law requires that records submitted be accurate and any wilful discrepancy on the part of the employer can lead to a five thousand dollar fine and/or imprisonment for five years as it is considered a class D felony. In America there is an exam that is administered known as the Certified Payroll Professional Exam.
