    Vermont is a state which is located in the northeastern part of the United States. It is one of the New England states. The total territory of the country consists of an area of 24,900 square kilometers. The capital of the state of Vermont is located in Montpelier. According to the census report of the year of 2000, the total population was estimated at around 608,827.

    Quebec is located at the northern border of Vermont. Massachusetts is located at the southern border of the state and on the western border there is New York. Vermont and New Hampshire are separated by the Connecticut River, from the Canadian border to the Massachusetts border. The center of Vermont expands through the Green Mountains. Mount Mansfield is the highest peak of the state and it is estimated about 1,339 meters high. Lake Champlain is the important lake of the state because almost all the rivers drain into it. The lake is named after its discoverer Samuel de Champlain who discovered the lake in the year of 1609.

    The region was actually settled by Abenaki Indians. In the year of 1979, Vermont became the 14th state of the United States. The Winter tourist industry is a very important factor in its economy.
