There are a few ways that you can get rid of fruit flies safely and naturally. These all work to trap the fruit flies. What seems to be the best way is to leave some red wine in a saucer or glass, cover it with cling film and put some holes in it so that once the flies get in they will struggle to get out. You can also use cider or any kind of soda to make this trap.
The fruit flies are attracted to anything that is left out that has a high sugar content so any liquids that meet this criteria are great. The flies will drown in the liquid and this will get rid of them.
Another way is to mix lemongrass oil with water and spray this around the room. This will also kill spiders, insects and other flies so you may not wish to use this method if you have pet spider or insects. This may also be harmful to fish as many spray methods of getting rid of insects are damaging to fish.
Buying fly strips to hang up in your home is another method to get rid of fruit flies. Flies stick to the strips and they are natural but there is little to get the flies to fly into them in the first place.
The best way to avoid fruit flies is to avoid having fruit flies come into your home. Do this by making sure that there is no food left out especially over ripe fruit and also rinse soda cans out before you put them in the recycling and this should reduce the likelihood of attracting fruit flies. Also make sure that you empty your bin bag daily, especially in the hotter summer months and keep the sink and plughole clean and food free.

20 yrs experience in the pest field here, you probably have what is called a "fungus gnat". They breed and feed in decaying organic matter, most likely a potted plant, and you will have to completely change out the potting soil, ALL OF IT, and not just one or 2 plants. Every single one. A surface treatment will NOT work, as it can't get to the source of the infestation. If you don't have plants, then you need to look at a moisture leak somewhere, maybe under a sink, by turning on BOTH faucets and look at pipes with a GOOD flashlight. I personally would not dump any pestiide "dust" on it, as it may be harmful to plants. You also need to look at any stagnant water maybe under or in, or around plant "dishes" were the water drains.  Hope this helps.

Take a lil glass of red wine, and put a drop of dish liquid on your finger tip- now, just touch the very center of the wine puddle... Just touch the surface..... It will change the viscosity of the wine, (which they'll be drawn to) and they'll drown.

Make sure that you aren't leaving any food out for them to be feeding on, especially fruit. Stuff a wash cloth into the drains when you aren't home, and make sure you run water through them everyday. Use an odor eater in the carpet, and make sure you vacuum every day for a few days. Hope this helps, good luck to you.

Gnats are irritating and can be hard to get rid of. The key to controlling them is to get rid of anything sitting around that they are attracted to. (Spoiled fruit, etc) Gnats are kind of witless creatures so you can try baiting them with something very sticky (they get stuck and can't fly away). I have even vacuumed them with an attachment hose quite successfully.

If you don't want gnats around, you need to cut off their food supply which are fruits and vegetables.
Make sure the house plants stay damp, but not wet, and they must have the proper drainage. Gnats love the over-watered house plants. You need to empty trashcans regularly and don't allow rotting food to sit in the house and never let dirty dishes stand in the sink.

Likely theyre small baby flies not gnats. Do they hang out in the kitchen near the fruit? Bannas? A lot of times they are brought from the supermarket as larvae and hatch in the ripening fruits

use your vacuum cleaner with the hose attachment. Takes a few minutes but they can't fly very fast.

Outside? Just leave a bowl of applecider/white vinegar on each end of your balcony/patio. It just might keep them occupied and away from your living area.

It's important to keep your house clean and not leave food out for a long-term solution. But for right now to get rid of the problem you might want to contact a professional and see what he or she recommends. There are some things you can spray in the worst areas to get rid of them.

The expression gnat basically is used as a colloquial name to any of the different small insects coming from the arrangement Diptera mainly within the suborder Nematocera.

Generally people face problems in getting rid of gnats, but there are quite a few simple ways using which you can get rid of them. It is advised that you regulate the watering of your plants because excessive watering of plants generally invites fungus gnats. Normally it's not easy to get rid of black fly gnats, which are also well known as buffalo or turkey gnats and the treating of these gnats is often undertaken by the local government, who treat water with Bacillus thuringienis.

In order to get rid of the midge gnat as well as biting and non-biting gnats, replace your old regular light bulbs, with low pressure or high pressure sodium lights, because they attract lesser midge gnats.

Hi,

The best natural way to keep these flies away from your house is to keep your house cleaner. Don't leave any food stuff uncovered. Keep the garbage basket cleaner and covered. This might do the purpose:)

They lay eggs in your plumbing, kitchen sink/bathroom sinks/bathtub drains. Etc. They're attracted to fruit, and any corked empty wine bottles you have lying around, they'll go nuts for those, make sure to rinse out your bottles/cans if you keep them around. And leave no food anywhere outside your fridge, stop buying fruit if you can't keep it in there. The vinegar trick works... But only to tell you how bad of an infestation you have.

To find out how bad it is, just put a clear beer glass with about an inch of vinegar in the bottom, then put plastic wrap (saran wrap) tight over the top of the glass, use an elastic to hold it firmly and tight in place, now poke a few tiny tiny tiny holes in the top of the saran wrap. Using the very tip of a toothpick, (basically, so they can squeeze in but can't fly back out) Watch them pile up. If you're getting 10+ a day, you probably have a nasty batch of em living in your house.

Just throw the glass out every day or two, apply and secure another layer of saran to the top of the glass again before tossing so the live ones still inside won't accidentally get back out into your home on the trip to the end of the driveway. This is only a temporary solution, you may be 100% successful in ridding them, but they have an annoying lifespan/egg hatching combo, that'll be what keeps them around, read Jubjub1878's response for more ways to accurately remove the pests.
