Who Created Wrestling?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Wrestling may be the oldest of all sports. Wrestling scenes have been found in cave paintings dating back over 15, 000 years. It was also practised as a sport in ancient cultures like Babylon and Egypt. The ancient Greeks developed wrestling the most; it was hugely important in the Olympic Games. In those days it was a much more dangerous and violent sport. Then the Romans adopted it; eventually it became Graeco-Roman wrestling, which has very complicated rules and is less brutal than old Greek wrestling. Graeco-Roman was reinstated as an Olympic sport in 1908.

Wrestling can be found in most cultures; the rules vary, as does how much damage you are allowed to inflict. (in some wrestling traditions kicking is allowed, for instance; in others, not. Judo and Jujitsu ae also forms of wrestling.

Women's wrestling became a recognised Olympic sport in 2004.
