New York is probably the most famous city there is. It's certainly the most filmed, photographed and written about city in the world.

An icon in its own right, there are well over 1,000 song titles containing the words, New York. Everyone from Frank Sinatra to Prince has felt the need to celebrate the city in song.

So what is it about New York that makes it so special, indeed, a destination to aspire to?

Money has a primary role. New York, the Big Apple of popular culture, is the leading business centre. The multi-billion financial goings-on in Wall Street reverberate not just across America, but right round the world.

This multi-national influence is strongly reflected in New York itself. The city resonates with a sense of anticipation and the smell of big buck international business. For enterprise, New York is the ultimate goal; the Mount Everest of corporate ladder-scaling. Hence, life in New York is lived at breakneck speed. However, in the wake of 9/11, New Yorkers have softened a little.
