What Industries Were There In Cardiff During Victorian Times?

    In Victorian times, Cardiff and South east Wales in particular had Iron and coal as the leading industries. There are great many number of people who came in to work in these industries. It was a booming industry and Iron and coal were being supplied to the world market.  
    Cardiff was a small town in early times. However, the Iron industry actually changed it. The demand for Iron was quite big. To save money wasted in transporting of Iron by road to ships, the industrialists and proprietors wanted to build a canal to do the same. They wanted to build a 25-mile long canal from Merthyr to the Taff Estuary at Cardiff for transporting the iron to the ships. They sort permission from the parliament to do so. The Glamorganshire Canal needed eight years to complete. The work started in 1790 and involved the installation of 50 locks. Later on the Taff Vale Railway was commissioned for this work South Wales coal was transported to the ships using trains instead of the barges. Cardiff Bay is now popular for arts, entertainment and night-life.
    The name of Cardiff's port was Tiger Bay. It became one of the busiest ports in the world for coal. It was a thriving industry generating revenues worth million pounds Sterling.
