What Is The History Of The City Of Chichester?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

As stated in Anglo-Saxon Chronicle, the city was captured at the end of the 5th century, and Elle, the man who captured it, renamed the city after the name of his son Cissa.

Some people say that it was this area that was the bridge-head of the invasion of Rome on Britain.

It was the main city in the Kingdom of Sussex. The city streets have been built in the shape of cross, which is an inheritance from the Romans. The lay out is a radiating structure at medieval market cross and it leads the shopping streets of North, South, East and West.

When you are visiting the city, you will find that a lot of city walls are intact in their place and can be walked along for some part of their length.
