Do Land Lords Need To Do Improvements To Apt If They Raise The Rent After Tenant Lives There For More Than 5 Years?

The law is different in different states. However, in some states the landlord is allowed to increase the rent after an year. But only by a certain percentage. In your case, the landlord has raised the rent after 5 years. Which is justified. And as per legal laws, he is liable to make improvements to the house, whether he raises the rent or not. So you better request the improvements in writing to him. If this does not work you can call the code compliance office.
