Swimming while you have your period is quite harmless in itself, and some people even find that it can help to relieve the cramps. However, there can be associated problems.
Some women, and especially young girls, find that they feel a bit weak during their period, especially the first two days. There are also other symptoms such as headaches, backache, nausea etc. If you have any of these, you should be careful swimming in the sea or at the deep end of the pool - not that swimming will make them any worse, but if you are feeling weak and ill you won't be able to swim strongly, which could be dangerous if you were far out of your depth. Even if you feel fine, few women are 100% at this time, so be careful.
Otherwise there should be no problem. You need to be careful with hygiene, of course, but that's easy enough.

Thanks so much my daughter wanted to know. I never did because i was never strong enough to swim while i have my period.
thanks so much i really wanted to know because my (*PERIOD*) came today & I'm suppose to go to the pool tomorrow and thanks
You can go swimming when you get your period, and it is probably recommended that you do some mild exercises such as swimming to ease cramps and pain due to your period. However you must use a tampon when you enter the water as it is unhygienic to enter the water if you are bleeding.

As weird as it may sound (especially to guys), yes you can. It won't change anything, or make anything worse.
