If we bifurcate the two words that come together to form the word psychology, we will come to know the concept itself that the word describes. The word psychology is formed of two words 'psyche' and 'logos' that describes the term mind and study respectively. So you can say that psychology is the study of mind. It includes all the mental processes and behaviour that can occur with a human being.
These days the importance of psychology is being increased manifold because we are living in a fast-paced world where stress is becoming the order of the day. To get rid of stress people always consult a psychologist who can suggest ways with which you can get rid of all the stress.
This branch of study has some branches also that are devised by various people related with the subject. One of the wings of psychology is Psychoanalysis which was devised by Sigmund Freud, the Austrian psychoanalyst.

Psychology is an amalgam of two words, it is derived from the word "psyche" which refers to an individual's internal thought processes and "ology" which means study. Psychology is a science which attempts at studying and figuring out the relationship between external and internal stimuli, the motives, characteristics of individuals, subjective experiences pertaining to their actions or behaviors. It tends to articulate the dispositions and personality types which fall into one category or another and the behaviors that a certain type of individual is most likely to exhibit. Originally, the study of human behavior used to fall in the domains of Philosophy. However, in the 20th century with the works of Sigmund Freud and Carl Gustav Jung major breakthroughs were seen in the science of the human mind. Particularly Freud's theory of Psychoanalysis which provided a deep insight into the human mind and Carl Gustav Jung's theory of archetypes introduced it as a Science which involved much deductive reasoning and is what formed the basis of modern Psychology primarily.
