What Is Hazing?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Hazing is also called 'ragging' or 'de-green horning' in many countries. Hazing is a practice that occurs in school and college campuses in many countries. It is an initiation ceremony for freshmen. Hazing probably started as a means to break the ice between the freshmen and the seniors. But over the years it has taken a dangerous undertone.

Nowadays hazing consists of activities that border on sexual, physical and emotional abuse. There have been instances when the student has been forced to consume substances which are not edible. Most American states have strict anti-hazing laws. Hazing has taken extreme turns in the past which have resulted in the death of the student. In India, a student died while performing hazing rites, the seniors panicked and attempted to dispose off the body. The incident left one student dead ruined the life of all the people involved. Hazing is yet to identify the fine line between fun and harassment.
