    An ionic compound of the formula MX

    Alkali metals lose one electron and form an ion with a charge of +1

    Halogens gain one electron and form an ion with a charge of 1-

    example: Na+ with Cl- give NaCl



    another example is the use of KCL

    pottasium which is the alkali metal is positively charged will lose an electron to chlorine the Halogen which is negatively charged to make it neutral.

    The equation is K^+1 + Cl ^-1 -KCl
