Lawerence stated that 'My great religion is a belief in the blood'.

He was an opponant of industrialisation and believed that peopl should and could be free to follow their instincts and find their souls and humanity.
He believed that industrialism destroyed the soul which he believed was pervasive.
He philosophised about instinct and reason and which path to follow. In sea and Sardinia he turns to this philosophy, 'I loved them all inthe theatre, the generous, hot southern blood..'
He had a knowledge of German philosophical thought and was familiar with Nietzsche's philosophy.
The Plumed Serpent has the theme of blood and soil, in it he talks of primeval energies and blood desires.
The idea of the blood is a link to the cosmos and the rhythms of the natural world. He puts people into that natural world and the blood and soil seeing them as compared to trees, rooted in the soil sending up new shoots, 'acting straight on the blood'.
