    Victoria Lake is the largest lake of the Africa. It is also the main reservoir of the Nile River. The lake is situated in east-central part of Africa. Tanzania is the southern half line of the lake. The northern half line is Uganda. Kenya is bordered by the lake in the north-eastern part. The total area that is contained by the lake is estimated around 69,484 square kilometres. Victoria is the second largest freshwater lake in the world after the North American lake which is called Lake Superior. Victoria Lake is about 337 kilometres long and 240 kilometres wide. The lake is up to 82 meters deep.

    The Kagera River is the largest tributary of the Victoria Lake. But the most important water source of the lake is rainwater or rainfall. Victoria Nile is the one and only outlet of the lake. The first European discoverer of the lake was John Hanning Speke. When he was finding the source of the River Nile in the year of 1858, he saw the lake. He gave the name of the lake for Queen Victoria. The lake became a reservoir when the water level was rose; it was the time of completion of Owen Falls Dam in the year of 1954.
