Is It True That Men Never Opt For Cosmetic Surgery?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A few decades back, the question of whether men actually went in for cosmetic surgery would have seemed frivolous, and the answer would have been 'Of course not!'. However, the times have changed drastically, especially from the latter half of the 20th century. Technological advancements, changing modes of thinking, changing social equations, etc. have together ensured that there is a rethink about the answer to whether men go for cosmetic surgery or not.

In the earlier days, the male stereotype ensured that even if there were certain men who preferred a trip to the cosmetic surgeon, the answer for the general population was a resounding 'No.' Cosmetic surgery was somehow linked with the female need to look beautiful, and hence placed outside the reaches of the male domain.

With the changing times, and with the ready access, this equation has changed irrevocably. The concept of 'the body beautiful' has permeated all of society, both the female as well as the male bastions, thanks to the overpowering imaging in the media of 'beautiful people'. Especially considering that the cosmetic surgeon holds the key to not just enhancing beauty, but the ability to recreate a full head of hair, one of the biggest male attractions, has been enough to send them packing to the surgeon's table. So today, the answer to the question of whether men too prefer cosmetic surgery is a 'yes.'
