    Edward Abbey was born on January 29, 1927 and died on March 14, 1989. He was born and raised in the state of Pennsylvania, but moved out west to do complete his writings which dealt with environmental issues. He was a well-known American author and essayist whose work focused on many different environmental issues. He is the author of "The Monkey Wrench Gang" and "Desert Solitaire". "The Monkey Wrench Gang" was written in 1975 and was very well accepted by radical environmentalist groups. This book focused on different ways that man sabotaged environmentally damaging activities. His voice on environmental issues was well heard. It was accepted by many and criticized by others. His other books include Fire on the Mountain (1962), The Fool's Progress (1988) and the autobiographical Confessions of a Barbarian (1994). Edward Abbey will be remembered for his strong voice and writings about environmental issues that affect every day life.
