Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

David Beckham joined Real Madrid in the year 2003 his transfer fee was €35 million (35 Million Euros). Although Manchester united were very keen on transferring David Beckham to Barcelona, however he declined and decided to sign a four year contract deal with Real Madrid. His transfer deal was completed on the 1st of July. He was the third English player to join Real Madrid.

It is said that Real Madrid purchased David Beckham only because of the merchandising opportunities. They felt that his jerseys would sale more than any other from the club, which did. On the day his transfer was completed all the shirts bearing the number 23 and David Beckham's name were all sold out in Madrid. However he wanted the number 7 on his jersey, but that was not possible as Raul Gonzales already had taken the number.
