    Erica basically is a genus of around seven hundred species of flowering plants found in the family of Ericacease, their English names meaning health or heather.

    The majority of the species are usually small shrubs ranging from 0.2-1.5 m in height, however some are taller. The tallest one being E. Arborea and E. Scoparia both can attain a height of six to seven meters. All these plant are evergreen and comprise of tiny needle like leaves which are approximately 2-15 millimetres long.

    Their flowers are generally axillary, and at times in terminal umbels or spikes. They are normally facing outward or downward. Flowers are borne in groups, and are grown as landscapes or gardens plants because of their floral effect.

    The immense collection of the species is widespread in South Africa and is commonly known as Cape Healths.
