Who Is Foxy In "Citizen Smith"?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

Foxy is the name given to Wolfie Smith (Robert Lindsay), leader of the Tooting Popular Front, by the kind but dimwitted mother of his girlfriend, Shirley (Cheryl Hall.) Mrs Johnson (Hilda Braid) is fond of "Foxy", a sentiment shared by most audiences, but by very few people in the sitcom itself. Despite his noble aspiration to bring "Freedom for Tooting" Wolfie is work-shy, devious and politically ineffective. The most crushing blow he manages to strike against the evil ruling class is putting some laxative in the punch at a party where he is invited by a "posh bird" to provide some free entertainment. Otherwise Wolfie is more concerned with carrying out various money-making scams and haranguing his (three) loyal supporters Ken, Tucker and Speed (Mike Grady, Tony Millan and George Sweeney) who comprise the whole of his revolutionary movement.
The witty script, and Lindsay's portrayal of Wolfie as a lovable, comically deluded rogue, made the series a favourite throughout its run.
