The Rag doll was first developed in the 1960's, in California by Ann Baker. It is a fairly large, muscular and heavy cat that has silky, semi-long hair. They shed but can do without daily grooming.
The Rag doll has it all, beauty, health and one of the nicest natured of all cats. They are very gentle even natured cats with an uncomplaining personality. Although they are playful, they are also quiet and relaxed. They are very loving and affectionate and adapt well to either indoor or outdoor living. Their affectionate nature allows them to interact very well with both kids as well as other pets. They even tolerate the not-so-gentle play, at the hands of a small child and will willingly endure it just to be with them. They take about 3 to 4 years to mature physically and the females usually weigh approximately 5 pounds less than the male.
