After the American led coalition invaded Iraq he was subsequently arrested and put on trial in his country. He was found guilty of crimes against humanity in the mass killing (genocide) of the Kurdish/Iraqi people when he unleashed a poisonous gas upon them. Saddam Hussein was executed by hanging.
