What Is The Purpose For Big Dipper?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

The 'Big Dipper' is the nickname in the US for the constellation Ursa Major (Great Bear) referring to the resemblance of its most conspicuous stars to a pan used for dipping in a water butt or the like.

In the UK, a 'big dipper' is another name for a rollercoaster so to avoid confusion we refer to the same constellation as The Plough (which it also resembles)
