What Is A Draft Copy?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

A draft copy or rough copy is a first attempt at something such as a novel or drawing which is later developed to form a finished product.

Artists usually produce rough sketches in pencil, or they may add a little colour to get an idea of which direction they should take in order to complete the painting. For example, they may produce a rough copy and not like it, so they will start again. Or they may think that it is going well and continue to develop it into something which looks complete.

The same goes with novels. Authors produce draft copies of novels or short stories. Then they revise them and turn them into something complete. They may add new parts to their stories or they may cut some out.
