It very much depends on what you mean by old ones!
If you're very young anyone older than thirty might seem old to you.I can assure you that a high percentage of older people look after their health and go out of their way to keep fit. Look at walking and rambling groups for example. Many of the groups are made up of older people and a high percentage of retired people.
It's a very sweeping statement to say that old ones can't keep fit.If someone is very old indeed and infirm then perhaps they can't keep fit. Anyone who suffers from illness may not be able to keep fit.
There are also many young people who aren't fit and eat junk food , drink and smoke too much.
A great many older people tend to watch what they eat and make the effort to avoid junk food and exercise regularly.
Being older is no bar to keeping fit and older people join gyms, walk a lot and keep a high level of fitness that would put people half there ages to shame.
I remember taking a youth group to climb Snow-down in Wales. At fifteen some of them were so unhealthy and unfit that they had to be left at the car park at the foot of the mountain because they hadn't the energy to make the long walk to the top. In contrast the 'old' staff were fit and did the ascent of the mountain easily whilst the youngsters collapsed at the bottom.
I think you've been too sweeping with this statement and a lot of us oldies could put the youngsters to shame when it comes to being fit.
