How Many All Merseyside Cup Finals Have There Been?

Answer Question

1 Answer - Sort by: Date | Rating

There have been three all Merseyside (Liverpool versus Everton) cup finals to date, all of which took place in the eighties, and all of which ended up with Liverpool as the winners.

The first all Merseyside final took place in nineteen eighty four when Liverpool and Everton contested the league cup, which at the time was under the name the Milk cup.

After a nil, nil draw at Wembley, Liverpool went on to win the replay at Maine Road Manchester, with Graham Souness the goal scorer for Liverpool.

The next encounter took place in the eighty six FA cup final, with Liverpool running out three, one winners, completing the second half of the double.

The third and final match took place again at Wembley and again it was an FA cup final.  This time the match needed extra time to settle it, with two Ian rush goals in extra time securing a three two win for the reds.
