Well, it is possible in the near future. The liver is very complex biochemical factory absolutely packed with the enzymes. The construction of this factory absolutely is still beyond the man's capabilities.Nevertheless, it is a possible to imitate one of the liver's functions, since the enzymes in the liver which function in removing some of the metabolic poisons are known. Utilizing the genetic engineering fragment containing the active templates or plans some of the known detoxifying enzymes have genetically implanted into the microorganisms which then produce them industriously.

They can then be used to remove the metabolic wastes from the liver by breaking the poisons down and making them more water soluble. These poisons can be excreted by the by the natural routes. At present however, there are still difficulties in activating such biochemical to produce the liver enzymes after their introduction into our metabolism.
Considering the relatively short time period which has elapsed since the initial experiments in the field of enzyme therapy, the scientists concerned can put themselves on the back and be hopeful that they will have made great strides by the end of the century.
