Do Snakes In The Grasslands Have Enemies?
Answers
Snakes are common in grassland areas and they themselves prey on animals that live there. However, they have their own predators and enemies too. In Africa, the secretary bird is one of the main predators of snakes. In South America, the seriemas, another ground dwelling bird feeds on snakes.
These long legged birds stalk over the ground and snatch snakes in their beaks or strike them with their feet. To avoid snake bites, the birds rely on their ability to surprise and rapidly kill their prey.
Many predatory birds hunt from the air, covering wide areas of grassland in their search for prey. Eagles and other broad-winged birds of prey soar high in the sky in currents of warm air that rise from the ground when the Sun is heating it up.
